Believe in the transformation pose of God. Repent and Believe in the Good News! This was the nostalgic theme used by the current Moderator of the Conference of Presbyterian Churches, North America, Rev Dr Moses Binney.
He reminded the congregation of the need to be transformed in Christ. As Christians the wind of constant transformation needs to blow in our lives anytime there is a divine encounter with the Lord.
Rev Binney, reiterated the urgency of repentance to the Christian body. “Repentance is a key element to propel a Christian from one state to another in the journey with Christ. Once repentance takes place, the transformation will be assured. Take cognizance, that repentance is not an instant occurrence however, it’s a continuous process that requires regrowth, rebirth, and a work of walking and abiding with the Lord.
He further charged the congregation to self-reflect on what repentance means individually. While to some, repentance can mean a cry for help from the lord, others may deem it a need for in-ward happiness reflecting a Christ-like life.
What is the Good news? And of what benefit is the Good News? Why is there a need for us to repent and believe in the Good News? These, rhetorical questions posed by Rev Biney solicit for introspection by the children of Christ.
Repenting and Believing in the Good News is the recipe for transformation in the lives of Christians. Drawing inspiration from the passage about Simon and Andrew (reference Mark 1:14-20), Rev Biney reminded the congregation that transformation would occur in obedience to the word of God. He said the urgency with which Simon and Andrew let go of the fishing gears when Jesus called them is worth emulating as Christians and affirmed that, although they had no prior knowledge of what the journey was about, they obeyed ‘ I will make you the fishers of men’ meant, they exercised the BELIEVE in Jesus thereby following him promptly.
Rev Biney in closing his sermon, tasked the congregation to believe in the calling of Christ for transformation, that it is a calling not to ignore but a call to obey.
The Host Pastor of Emmanuel Presbyterian Church Bronx N Y Very Rev Dr. Yaw Frimpong – Manso who conducted the elevation service invited Moderator Rev Binney whose visit coincided with the elevation of the newly elected elders of the Church to join him to pray and usher the new elders elect into office.
